About Bill
William (Bill) Holland, the proprietor of Idlewild Professional Tours is a member of the has been working as a DC Tour Guide since 2017. He is a member of the Guild of Professional Tour Guides of Washington, DC.
Early Life
Born in the District of Columbia, he has resided in the DMV (District, Maryland, and Virginia) Region most of his life. A lawyer, fiction author, and freelance writer, in addition to tour guiding, he traces his paternal ancestry back eight generations to enslaved Mount Vernon. His interest in local history is a natural product of his family’s oral tradition.
Education
On his Mount Vernon tour, with his in-depth knowledge of local history, he provides actual interactions between his ancestors and General Washington.
He received his undergraduate degree in English Literature and Education from Fisk University (Nashville, Tennessee) and a law degree from DC’s Howard University. His curiosity about local lore was inspired at an early age.
Training
Holland acquired his training from Guide Service of Washington, where he began his employment as a contract guide before venturing out on his own.
He provides experienced, enthusiastic, and informed tours. He designs customized tours to satisfy the client’s needs, whether a family, small group, or as a step-on bus guide.
